Cannon Falls, MN (February 3, 2014) … Customers of the Cannon Falls Econofoods store donated $2,489 to the Cannon Falls Food Shelf during a store-sponsored fund-raising effort that lasted from late November to the last week in December (2014).  During the campaign, customers were offered the opportunity to contribute to the local food shelf as they completed their purchases at the cash register.

“I’d like to thank all of our customers, whose generosity made this contribution possible,” Cannon Falls Econofoods Store Director Jeff Kes said. “And, I’d also like to thank our store staff for their efforts in promoting the program.”

Cannon Falls Food Shelf Board President David Karpinski thanked Kes, his staff and community residents.

“Donations like these, generated locally, are especially meaningful,” Karpinski said. “They show the community’s support for the Food Shelf’s purpose and efforts.”

Food Shelf Manager Sue Banks said the donation will provide the Food Shelf with additional resources and flexibility when specific foodstuffs are in short supply or unexpected needs arise, adding that the local Econofoods’ store supports the Food Shelf in other ways including “the placement of food donation barrels in the store and direct store donations of food items.”

The Cannon Falls Food Shelf is located in the lower level of First English Church (511 West Belle Street).  The Food Shelf is open from 10:00 a.m.-noon the first Saturday, second Thursday and fourth Thursday of each month; and from 4:30-6:30 p.m. the third Thursday of each month.  If you’d like to make a direct donation to the Food Shelf, you can send it to the Cannon Falls Food Shelf, 511 West Belle Street, Cannon Falls, MN 55009. Food donations can be dropped off at Econofoods in downtown Cannon Falls (425 Main Street West) or at First English Lutheran Church (511 West Belle Street).
